Wreck it Ralph

download

Director: Rich Moore

Year Released: 2012

Description: A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

The game Wreck-It Ralph will be a familiar game to many oldies as it has been functioning for quite a long time now, and to make it into a movie? Just amazing. This movie is really entertaining as many jokes are tossed around inside the movie which is really pointed towards the kids. This movie really suits all age groups as it is versatile in terms of it’s movie scenes, this cartoon movie really excels as the best one ever before Frozen. This movie also teaches life long lessons which can be beneficial to the kids that parents want to mold to a good person. This movie ejects many emotions, sadness, happiness and even rejected feelings. I would recommend this movie to anyone who can understand any language that this movie provides as this movie is really worth the movie and time.

MAMA

Director: Andrés Muschietti

Year Released: 2013

Description: Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years…. but how alone were they?

Normally, I would not even consider horror movies as it would haunt me for the rest of the whole week or even month! But I decided to try this one out because it does not look that bad does it. This movie mostly takes place in the house, where each night some mysterious things will happen. Somehow you would question their actions but it is a movie anyways. The movie has a lot of suspense scenes which really seems to be the most scariest things that could happen, the worst of the worst things would be the jumpscares. Don’t worry, this movie has plenty. The movie will be revolved on the family of 4 as Lucas adopted his young nieces. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is finding a horror movie because this will truly be a movie to remember forever.

Hercules

cin_-_hercules_ver2

Director: Brett Ratner

Years Released: 2014

Main Cast: Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Ian McShane

Genre: Action, Adventure

Description: Having endured his legendary twelve labors, Hercules, the Greek demigod, has his life as a sword-for-hire tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek his aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord.

His movie was not what I expected. I expected that there will be Gods and mystical beast something like Percy Jackson but this movie was more toward war fighting and survival. Although it was different but I feel that the movie was not bad afterall.

In this movie, they portrait Hercules as a mercenary who provide war service when paid. It is very different for the “mythological” Hercules who fight for justice. It was a creative but yet daring move.

What I like in this movie were the war scenes, the war scenes were exciting and I could feel the heat of the battle from my seat, it get me all fired up. That was the only thing I am attracted to, the rest was just crap.

I think that the another scene that will attract our attention was the 12 labours but they simply just show it for few minutes and ended. So there were nothing much attractive about this movie.

I think that they should stick with the old storyline about “mythological” Hercules instead of creating a new storyline about Hercules unless they have an excellent storyline.

In 5 words: exciting war scene, lousy storyline

The Purge

MV5BMTU0OTE1Nzk2NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjE5NDY0OQ@@._V1_SX214_AL_

Director: James DeMonaco

Year Released: 2013

Description: In the future, a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.

This movie was hyped up as a more towards a horror genre but sadly to say, the movie was made more in a action thriller movie. There are frightening moments from time to time but that is all that you are going to get from it. If you were expecting a top horror movie, sorry to disappoint you but it isn’t what it seems. They took a few notes from the movie Sinister and put in the same elements. In the movie, you will be questioning the kids decisions as they are really questionable at some times.  The movie has many jumpscares so this movie isn’t for the fainthearted. This movie has action packed in every scene except the beginning which will be happy for some individuals but for others it might be too much for them to handle. This movie all-around has an interesting ending which will leave you talking about it even after the movie ends. I would recommend this movie to those who have enough money to catch a  movie, but this movie is not worth borrowing money from friends just to watch.

World War Z

world-war-z-poster

Director: Marc Forster

Year: 2013

Main Cast:  Brad Pitt

Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller

Description: United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

I am a big fan of zombie shows and movies and there have been some great ones in the past (e.g. 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks later, Zombieland etc.) This film was certainly highly anticipated ahead of its premiere and I have to say it disappointed big time. For readers of the book itself, this film left out A LOT. For zombie fans like me, the ending is extremely anti-climactic. The film gets going very quickly and mayhem struck even before there was any story development. From there onwards, it was thrilling action throughout. There were many moments you’d expect from a zombie movies like creepy hallways and flickering lights and those moments were very similar to a horror movie. During those moments, I was really at the edge of my seat as the zombies are so fast it really is frightening for the viewer like myself. Despite lots of zombie action in the first 3/4 of the movie, you’d expect an amazing ending. It was a big build-up to it and then like that, they just cheat your feelings. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a creative way to end a zombie movie but people just seem to look down upon it. Anyways, apart from that, there were quite a number of mistakes in the film and if you watch it, I’m pretty sure you would find some yourself.

Basically, this movie only starred Brad Pitt as far as I’m concerned. The supporting characters were very forgettable and there were just no personality for the other characters to be able to remember them by. Of course, Brad Pitt’s acting was good and he was undoubtedly the only reason that non-zombie movie fans would watch this movie.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

tslwt
Director: Ben Stiller

Year Released: 2013

Main Cast: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Jon Daly

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Drama

A day-dreamer escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, he takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

When I first heard about this movie, it did not really catch my interest. However, the trailer of the movie attracted my attention and I decided that it should be a good film to watch.

I’ve fairly enjoyed this movie. The visuals and soundtrack in the movie were simply stunning. This is definitely the most beautiful film I’ve watched since a long time ago. The soundtrack was also very well placed and fits perfectly with the tone of the film. They are the best points of the movie. The movie was very thrilling at times. However, there were a few moments that were rather boring and dull, especially at the start. The start of the film was too long and unnecessary. Also, the comedy bits at the start seemed forced and did not make me laugh. Luckily, when Walter Mitty started the real adventure, things started to get really interesting.

Ben Stiller, the director of the movie, played Walter Mitty himself. He did a great job in my opinion and you can tell that he really put a lot of effort in this movie. His acting was engaging and really got me into the movie. This is definitely his best work to date. Kristen Wiig and Jon Daly also played their part well.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was a unique and inspirational film. I will recommend you to watch it in the cinema or on a HD TV, as the cinematography is truly exceptional. Overall, it is a great family comedy film.

Divergent

divergent

Director: Neil Burger

Years Released: 2014

Main Cast: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet

Genre: Action, Adventure, Romance

Description: In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late.

This movie is nice but I wouldn’t say it is awesome/fantastic. Why I say it nice because this movie had caught my attention with all those dangerous stunt. Especially the leaping of faith from the tall building into the large hole. At that moment, I could feel my heart at my throat, that feeling of fear totally send chills throughout my whole body. (#don’t judge. I am afraid of height)

The flaw this movie had is that the story is too easily predictable which spoil the fun as I know what going to happen in the next few minutes. There are also some useless scene in the movie like the zip-line/flying fox (high element) scene right after they finish the “capturing-the-flag” game. What for do they even do it? I don’t see the connection/link in it.

In this movie, they showcased Theo James as Four someone which have remarkable results in Dauntless and is afraid of height but when watching the movie he can just walk easily on the wire without showing any fear although he might know that it is fake because he is divergent .However I wouldn’t criticize his acting as I like his acting at some part and think it not bad

Carrie

download

Director: Kimberly Peirce

Year Released: 2013

Main Cast: Chloë Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Gabriella Wilde

Genre: Drama, Horror

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Carrie. Well.. it was not a bad film. However, I don’t think it is on par or better than the 1976 version. The plot was easy to understand, but rather typical. The reason why I watched the movie in the first place was because of the idea of telekinesis as the main idea in a horror movie. The story was well built-up and you will definitely not leave the cinema wondering “Why?”. The set of the movie was also great and they did a great job in not making the film overly-modern. However, if you are someone that gets freaked out when you see blood, this is definitely not the right horror movie for you. There was so much blood in this movie, I actually did feel grossed out at one point. Also, if you are a fan of jump-scares, you will be disappointed. There were only a few in the film and they were honestly quite expected.

Enough about the story. On to the acting. Firstly, let’s start off with Carrie herself. It is certainly not simple to act as Carrie. However, Chloë Grace Moretz played the role perfectly. She displayed the emotions of Carrie flawlessly throughout the film. Her performance in this movie was surely her best. I’d also like to point out that despite being a… creepy girl in the film, she still somehow looked attractive. Julianne Moore played Carrie’s mother. To me, she actually looks scarier than Carrie. She also played her part well as a crazy psycho mom, and her voice was actually very impacting in the film.

Overall, still a great and interesting movie. Even though it is not the scariest horror movie out there, it is still enough to freak you out.

Need for Speed

Director: Scott Waugh

Years Released: 2014

Main Cast: Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama

Description: Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.

This movie was not up to my expectation I feel that the content of this movie is just too plain/simple. There is not much exciting scene/twist in it to hook up audience attention. What I feel is the most fail was the crash Dino and Pete have. I mean like do they have to make Pete’s car flip so many time before it drop down the bridge. It just so unrealistic.

There are also some scene that attracted me like how Tobey and Julia in their Mustang got forced off – road by couple of truck and how Julia totally freak out when they were hanging in mid-air.

Well, I think that this movie is still okay at least it didn’t make me fall asleep.

In 5 words: poor content but still okay
